Family Sundays at KWAG

Date: Sunday, March 5

Time: 1 - 4 pm drop in

Place: Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, 101 Queen St N, Kitchener

Cost: Suggested donation of $ 5 per child

Another edition of Box Fort Building will be taking place in the gallery's community room. Drop in and help us making an epic fort! Learn about the tools and methods we use for cardboard building and get some hands on experience in this awesome medium!

February 2017

 

Family Hack Jam

Date: Monday, February 20

Time: Doors open at 10 am. Showcase projects at 3 pm. Doors close at 4 pm.

Place: THEMUSEUM, 10 King St W, Kitchener

Cost: Admission for visitors ages 3 and up is $8.95+HST

Join us for a day of celebrating maker culture at the Family Hack Jam where  we will be running a cardboard fort building zone! 
Parents and children will work together to build an epic box fort! We provide the materials and tools, you bring the imagination and elbow grease. Together we will build a corrugated playground where creative ideas and hands-on skills are put into practice. We will have hand saws, pokey tools, staplers, fasteners, tape, markers and an electric scroll saw for cutting intricate shapes from cardboard. Parents must supervise their children when using tools in the cardboard fort.

Other activities organizations providing activities at this event include: The Underground Studio, Hive Waterloo, Hackademy, Waterloo Public Library, and Inksmith!

sew-a-thing-a-thon

Date: Sunday, February 12

Time: 12 - 6 pm

Place: kwartzlab makerspace, 33 Kent Ave. Kitchener

Cost: PWYC donations at the door

Join us for a drop-in event where you can make a number of machine or hand sewn items just in time for Valentine's Day. We'll have volunteers on site to help you make your own bow-tie, hair bow, drawstring bag, Valentine's cards, pom-poms and buttons! We'll be collecting PWYC donations at the door to help cover materials. Tea, coffee and hot coco will be served! Yes, this is a family-friendly event. Come on down and get crafty at kwartzlab for a fun and social sewing party!

DECEMBER 2016

 

NYE Celebration

Date: Saturday, December 31, 2016

Time: 6 - 9 pm

Place: Waterloo Public Square

Cost: Free

We'll be running a paper party hat making station as one of many activities to see and try this New Years Eve. Take a selfie in our cardboard time machine, or launch some LED rockets and fireworks. Try out the slinging helicopter toys or get hit with a burst of smoke from an air cannon! And of course the skating rink will be open for all to enjoy with music to skate to.

Scare in the Square

We’re hosting activities for all ages, interests, and skill levels. Local businesses, guilds, and community partners will be on hand to demonstrate their skills and ideas, and there are workshops throughout the day in the Theatre."

Two artists face off in a duel to build the most epic fort in a live demonstration of imagination and skill! Agnes and Jen will be building a cardboard fort and encourage everyone to come out to lend a hand and support Team Cardboard! They will be facing off against local balloon artist, Drew Ripley.

We will be setting up a Cardboard Zone for kids to play in and make their own woodland creature mask craft!
