Week 18
Step One: STUDIES
Welcome to week eighteen of your Smash Book! Today, you will be making different versions of the same still life image to practice different drawing styles!
Step 1. The first thing you need to do is to create a still life composition to reference in your drawings. Gather some interesting objects, and arrange them close to each other. You can take a photo of them to look at if you want, or you can just draw them from real life.
Step 2. Now it is time to start your studies of the still life you have set up! Use different media to capture the image on paper. You can reference the styles used in our sample:
watercolour paint
close-up details
pencil crayon or “wrong colour” pencil crayon
fine tip, black marker only
simple shapes, paper cutouts
negative space, black marker only
…or come up with some of your own drawing styles!
Try to experiment with different materials and angles. Make sure you label each box with what medium you used.
Step 3. Cut out each box using scissors, then paste them into your Smash Book using a glue stick.
