Weaving a Tapestry
The art of weaving dates back about 12,000 years to the Neolithic era and is recognized as one of the oldest crafts in the world! Wowzers! Weaving is so useful for survival. Sticks and grasses can be used to create shelter and baskets for holding food. Softer fibres from plants and animals can be spun and woven into clothing and textiles used in the home.
We think weaving is a fantastic activity and can be equally as addictive as needle felting. There are so many ways in which weaving can be done. For this project we’ve chosen a simple frame loom design to create a decorative wall tapestry weaving.
But first, we need to make the loom! You will need to let the glue dry over several hours, so it’s best to plan ahead if you’re eager to get weaving. You will need white glue, and hot glue and some binder clips to assemble your loom.
If you’ve purchased our tie-dye kit, you’ll be able to use your newly dyed yarn in this project. If you’re sourcing your own yarn, look for a variety of thicknesses to give your project a more interesting look.
