In this introductory stake and strand willow basketry class we will create a round basket around the size of a fruit bowl. You will learn how to create a 4x4 slath, 3 rod base wale, a french rand side weave and end with a 2 pair border. This is a beginner friendly weaving project, no prior experience required.
Please note, working with willow requires a fair amount of hand strength and can be challenging on your joints.
All tools will be provided, please bring a lunch.
A note about kit fees: There is a lot of time and physical work that goes into preparing the willow for a class as each rod is grown, harvested, dried and then soaked for 4-6 days and mellowed for an additional 2 days. As such, students are responsible for paying a $25 Kit Fee to the instructor on the day of the class.
