Week 24

Playful Picnic

Welcome to week twenty-four of your Smash Book! Today you will be creating cute “kawaii” style drawings for a picnic scene.

Step 1. Grab a blank sheet of paper to use for some drawing practice. The printable templates this week include step by step drawing tutorials for how to doodle a strawberry, a sunshine and a Nimbus cloud! What other fun elements will you add to your picnic scene? We will be giving our drawings a simple face to make them come to life in “kawaii” style.

Kawaii comes from the Japanese culture of cuteness. By drawing a simple little face on your object or character, you can see how it instantly makes it oh so adorable.

If you search online, you can find all sorts of wonderful examples of how to draw in the kawaii style. One of our favourite artists is Zainab Khan who is the creator of Pic Candle. You can visit their Youtube Channel here.

They have also published 3 books which are full of wonderful tutorials too that we highly recommend checking out!

Step 2. Once you’ve doodled a collection of images and coloured them in, you can start to arrange them into your picnic scene. If you would like, use the printed template to cut and paste your table onto the page first. You will find it helpful to make a crease the page in the centre of the table before glueing it into your book.

Step 3. Cut and paste your favourite items from your practice sheets and collage them into your scene using a glue stick.

Happy Doodling, and don’t forget to share your finished pages with us over on the Google Classroom.
