Week 12

My mindful Garden

Welcome to week twelve of your Smash Book! For today’s activity, you will be practicing some mindful zen doodles and drawing a garden scene.

Step 1. Gather some drawing tools. We recommend using a thin black marker, but you can use a pen or pencil too. Remember that permanent markers will bleed through printer paper, so keep an extra scrap paper underneath as you fill in your doodles.

Step 2. Print out and fill out the Doodle Patterns practice sheet. If you don’t have a printer, just draw a bunch of squares on a half sheet of paper and fill them in using the following prompts as your guide:

  • Lines + Dashes

  • Dots + Circles

  • Curved Lines

  • Geometric Shapes

  • Chevron + Zig Zag

  • Cross Hatch

Step 3. To create your Mindful Garden drawing, use the blank half of your printed template (or half of a letter sheet). By using a separate sheet you don’t need to worry about the ink bleeding through onto your Smash Book pages. Use a pencil to sketch out the things that live in your garden.

Not sure what to include in your garden scene? Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • gnome / fairy home

  • a path or stepping stones

  • sun and clouds

  • flowers, vegetables, trees, and shrubs

  • critters like rabbits, squirrels, and foxes

  • bugs and birds

Step 4. Outline your pencil sketch with black marker or pen and fill in these shapes with as many Zen Doodle Patterns as possible! Feel free to add colour to your drawing too. Paste your finished pages into your Smash Book.
