Week 17

Haute Couture

Welcome to week seventeen of your Smash Book! Today, you will be putting your fashion design skills to work to create some painted clothing patterns using a Rorschach inkblot inspired printmaking technique.

Step 1. Print out this week’s template or draw your own clothing art using a fine black marker. Cut out each square on the printable using a pair of scissors. Then, carefully fold each one in half. The squares are designed so that the fold line should be in the exact center of each clothing item.

Step 2. Using a brush (or your finger), place small differently coloured blobs of paint on either side of the fold line. Don’t worry about it being even! Make sure to do this quickly so that the paint doesn’t dry.

Step 3. Take each edge of the paper, and fold along the crease you already created. Then, use your fingers and press gently on each side to make sure the paint is evenly spread out. After that, carefully peel open the paper to reveal your cool design!

Step 4. Once the paint has completely dried, you can use a black marker to go back over any of your lines that got covered in paint!

Step 5. Using scissors, cut along the outline of the clothing to reveal your finished colourful garment!

Step 6. Using a glue stick, insert each of your finished clothing pieces into your Smash Book. Feel free to decorate the page in a way that reflects your clothing designs!
