Week 19

Litter Landscapes

Welcome to week nineteen of your Smash Book! Today you will be collecting “junk” items to use in a printmaking and collage art exercise for creating a landscape scene.

Printmaking with Litter

Step 1. Look around your home for items from the recycling bin or junk drawers that have an interesting texture and that could be used for printmaking.

Step 2. Prepare some paints for dipping your objects in (watercolour or acrylic) and make prints using your found objects onto this week’s printable template. Make sure to label each square with the item you used.

Step 3. On a new half page sheet, choose your favourite printing items and start to design your image. Make sure to use different colours of paint to separate different objects in your scene.

Step 4. After all of your printing is done, go back with a marker to add in some outlines to your shapes as well as any additional details you’d like to add to your scene.

Collage a Postcard

Step 1. Collect colourful junk papers from around your home (magazines, envelopes, newspaper, food packaging, etc.)

Step 2. Cut down a piece of cardstock paper into the size of postcard (about 4”x6”).

Step 3. Sketch out a rough idea of what you’d like to include in your scene (you will collage over top of this sketch).

Step 4. Cut and paste your junk papers , layering them into a landscape scene.

Step 5. Use a marker to add in any final details wherever you feel they are needed.

Step 6. Make extra post cards and send them off in the mail to friends and family you haven’t seen in awhile! I’m sure they’d love to hear from you!
