Week 29

Fishing for texture

Welcome to week twenty nine of your Smash Book! Today, you will be capturing a variety of textures from around your home.

Step 1. Take a look around your home, or outdoors for some objects that have interesting textures! A good place to start would be your recycling bin. Try to gather a wide variety of textured surfaces.

Step 2. Lay the printout over your textured objects. Use a crayon and gently rub it over the paper to pick up the textured pattern. For capturing larger areas, this technique works best if you peel the paper off your crayon and use the entire length when rubbing instead of just the tip end of the crayon.

Step 3.  Next, you can use watercolours to paint on top of your crayon texture. The wax of the crayons will resist the watercolour paint, so your texture will pop! Try using contrasting colours for a more vivid effect.

Step 4. Use scissors to cut out your fish. Then, use a glue stick to paste them into your Smash Book! Feel free to decorate the page more to fit your fishy underwater theme.
