Week 34
Finding Phrases
Welcome to week thirty-four of your Smash Book! Today, you will be creating your own collage poetry.
Step 1. First, gather some materials to find words for your poetry. Magazines, advertisements, and newspapers will work the best.
Step 2. Using scissors, start cutting out words or short phrases that you like the sound of. Try and imagine what kind of poems you could write with them as you cut! Don’t forget to get basic words such as you, and, from, etc. as you are cutting as it will be helpful in making sentences!
Step 3. Now that you have many words to work with, try and arrange them to make a poem! Your poem can be about anything. You can also write in words with a marker if you aren’t able to find them yourself.
If you are having trouble making a normal poem, try challenging yourself to create a haiku! This is a type of japanese poem that is made up of one line with 5 syllables, one line with 7 syllables, and another line of 5 syllables.
Step 4. Once you have arranged one or more poems that you like, paste them into your Smash Book using a glue stick. Feel free to decorate the page to reflect your poem!
