Week 4
Colour Theory 101
Welcome to week four of your Smash Book! Today, you will be experimenting with the colour wheel. You will be able to look back to this page in future weeks, when you will be completing special colour challenges.
Step 1. Print out or draw a copy of the colour wheel template. Using coloured pencils (recommended) or markers, fill in each section of your colour wheel with the same colour written.
Step 2. Using scissors, cut out the colour wheel, and the other shapes on the printout. Using a glue stick, paste these into a new page of your smash book.
Step 4. Now it’s time to get creative and colour in your clouds and mushrooms.
Looking at your finished colour wheel, make a sample for each of the following colour schemes:
Complementary (colours are opposite from each other on the wheel)
Analgous (colours that are side by side on the wheel)
Warm (reds, oranges, yellows)
Cool (greens, blues, purples)
Monochromatic (one colour, but has white or black added to create variations)
Achromatic (no colour, just black, white, greys)
Shade (one colour with black mixed in to darken)
Tint (one colour with white mixed in to lighten)
If you’re feeling extra creative, you could even cut out pictures from magazines, or make your own drawings to create a collage colour wheel like this:
