A preview of what you’LL discover in our kit:

Weighing in at over 15 lbs, this box is full of our most beloved tools and materials which will be used to create over 20 original art projects that we know you’re going to love.

Our projects are designed to be worked on at your own pace, so you can take the time you need to complete them. Our video tutorials and printed activity guide will take you through our projects step by step.

We’ve included lots of materials so that you can customize your projects to fit your own style. Many of our projects have enough materials which can be shared between 2 or more people. Any leftovers can be used to continue to hone your skills and make more than just one of each project. We think they make great gifts too!

And the best part is that after you’re done creating our projects, you’ll still have many tools left over to be used in future projects throughout the year.

Recommended ages for our projects are 7+. Kids between the ages of 7-9 may require a helping hand. Adults love our kits too!

our original series of educational maker videos:

  • Our Material Minutes segments teach facts and history about the materials used in our kit

  • Meet artists & makers in interviews hosted by our mascot, Nimble Nimbus

  • Explore various drawing styles in our Daily Doodles lessons

  • Our Mindful Moments poems and journal reflections provide prompts for practicing mindfulness

  • Learn facts about local plant life with Mardi Mars da Gnome!

maker magic kit projects:

quill and ink set

Make your very own feather pen complete with a fine metal pen nib for writing with India ink. We’re certain this stationary set will make your hand written letters even more fun to do!

The supplied feather is white and can be dyed using rubbing alcohol (not included) and permanent markers.

quill / ink holder and paper casting mold

Plaster is another versatile material that we love exploring the possibilities of in art making. We’ve created two unique projects using our clay and plaster kit.

Make a rock shaped paper weight stand to hold your quill and ink set. This provides a safe spot to store and display your stationery tools and the weighted base keeps your ink well from tipping over.

The plaster mold project will be used with our paper making kit for casting pulp into a shallow relief form, like the “A” example shown. The plaster works to wick away the water in the paper pulp and can be used repeatedly for many castings.

This kit comes with enough material to make 4 plaster projects.

Book Binding

Learn the basics of making your own hand bound book. Once you learn how simple the process is, you’ll be able to continue making books of all sizes with the same technique. The specialty book binding tools we’ve put together can be used repeatedly to create many book projects. We’ve designed a nifty new envelope style notebook to go with our theme this year!

Copper Circuit wand

Our Maker Magic kit would not be complete without a light-up wand. Our design uses copper tape, so there is no soldering required and most importantly the battery can be changed! This is a great project to introduce prop making from simple materials and is sure to provide hours of imaginative play for our young witches and wizards.

DIY Cardboard Boxes

It’s no secret that we love cardboard boxes and we’re particularly delighted with our batch of designs for this kit. Not only do these boxed look awesome, but they are also very handy for organizing your kit materials or for hiding away your treasures. We’ll show you how we used tissue paper to give these boxes some colour and pizzazz!

paper Making + pulp casting

The process of paper making hasn’t changed very much since it was invented in the 2nd century! This ancient art form is a wonderful way to recycle paper and create something beautiful from waste materials. Our custom mold and deckle is perfectly sized for sheet making to fit the card bases included in this kit. Take your paper making skills even further and try our 3D pulp casting and debossing projects, you’ll find the possibilities are truly endless.

Tissue paper collage

Channel your inner artist and turn ordinary tissue paper scraps into some truly awe inspiring landscape collages. Learn how to tear, cut and layer the tissue to achieve various effects. We think these make delightful little “postcards” from a magical land far far away.

Tie Dye

Create your own beautifully dyed items with these vibrant Procion MX Fibre Reactive Dyes. This will definitely be the messiest craft in this kit, but the results are so worth it. We’ve included 2 pre-washed cotton bandanas and a ball of yarn for dyeing.

You will have enough dye left over to also dye a couple of your own t-shirts too. Instead of buying a new white shirt, why not try over-dyeing an old shirt to give it a new life? Just make sure the tag says 100% cotton!

Needle Felting

Through the magic of needle felting you can transfigure ordinary sheep’s wool into some extraordinary felted sculptures. This kit will have you happily stabbing the hours away. Our planted pot design can be used as a functional and adorable pin cushion to store all your sharp tools too. Project plans also include instructions for making a simple felted heart or star using our custom 3D printed felting forms.

Weaving on a stick Loom

Weave your own cozy scarf or bracelet cuff using our custom stick loom. This versatile loom allows you to weave skinny or wide panels which can be used in a variety of creations. The project plans in this kit focus on creating skinny weavings using only 4 of the 9 pegs included in the kit. We’ve included a ball of black and white acrylic yarn to which you can add your tie-dyed yarn. This loom works with skinny and chunky yarns.

We’ve designed our loom to be expandable, so you can link up 2 or more looms to create even larger projects. Additional looms can be purchased separately as part of our single kit options. Single kits will be available for purchase starting the last week of June 2021.

Sewing with felt: book covers + Worry-Eater Dolls

Upgrade your handmade notebook with a custom felt cover. This dust jacket will not only protect your notebook, but it also provides some handy storage for your writing tools too.

Stitch your stresses away with this super mindful sewing project to make your own cuddly buddy who loves to gobble up worries! The zippered mouth on this doll provides a place to stash your secrets or safe guard your treasures.

potion jars - Layered Salt crystals

In this project we’ll be dyeing ordinary table salt with materials from our tie-dye kit to make batches of colourful crystals to layer into these awesome little potion jars. We’ve also included some glitter to give these jars an extra special magical touch.

Supplies are included to make 5 jars in a mix of sizes and one jar can be made into a wearable necklace. The cork stopper will need to be sealed with super glue (not included) before wearing.

BONUS PROJECT:

cardboard pinball

We invented this pinball project back in 2017 as part of our summer camp program and it was such a huge success that we’ve decided to bring it back for some creative play at home this year. You can even play two machines back-to-back for battle mode!

Check out this video to see one of our students explaining his awesome pinball game. >>>

Blanket Forts at Break-time

Yes, we’re even including a kit for making your own blanket fort! A well loved past time at our camp. We’re putting in some key tools, but you’ll need to BYOB (bring-your-own-blanket).
